The Merchant Vintner has been actively trading in wine since 1991, although Tony Hirons has been working professionally in the wine trade since 1976. Discovering just how good “good” wine can be has made it our priority to search it out – from all corners of the wine world. In so doing we are able to offer a variety of wonderful wines to our customers.

Along the way we have not only discovered some absolutely marvelous wines, but we have also discovered the people who make them and who have now become life-long friends. It may well be a cliché to talk about “passion” when it comes to wine, remarkable wine regions and the wonderful people who make the wines we represent, but it is true. The passion we had then, we have now, and even though the realities of the business of wine can be complex, we would not change things one iota.

In the following pages you will see examples of what we mean when we say “good” wine. These wines are by no means a comprehensive portfolio of what we can offer and are, of course, governed by the LCBO’s Vintages requirements which are of necessity variable. However, we are expanding our Consignment (Private Orders) portfolio so, eventually, you will be able to join us in enjoying our wines as and when they appear in the marketplace – and maybe catch some of our passion in the process.
